The Open Source Center is seeking trained, innovative, customer-service oriented applicants to join the CIA Library. The CIA regularly provides current information to the President of the United States and senior government officials, and Librarians regularly play an essential role by researching the critical information needs of our various offices. Librarians also have opportunities to relocate within other Agency offices, serving as research/resource experts for their particular needs. Our Library maintains strong working relationships with the Library of Congress, other Intelligence Community libraries, as well as with selected academic institutions and other resources.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Librarians must have strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills and be able to assess customer information needs to determine appropriate information resources to meet customer requirements. The H.M. Briggs Library welcomes applications for a 12-month faculty position at the rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor, dependent upon qualifications.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Responsibilities:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Assist, advise, and instruct users in accessing information. This includes providing information inquiry services during scheduled information desk hours and through consultations in the information services office or elsewhere.  Traditional and electronic reference resources must be used to respond to information requests made in person, via instant messaging, e-mail, telephone and other methods.  In addition to providing quick-reference information and instructing clients in the use of library resources, all information services librarians may need to undertake in-depth research and conduct database searches for SDSU students and employees, including those at remote locations.   Information services librarians are scheduled at the information desk, including some evening and weekend duty, within workload guidelines established by the Head of Public Services.  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Provide leadership in promoting Briggs Library services and materials to the university community.  This requires working closely with public services librarians and other library staff  members to ensure promotional efforts address library goals, objectives, and priorities. The chair of the Instruction and Information Literacy Working Group also serves on the strategic initiative Vision 2010 Undergraduate Initiative Task Force.&lt;br /&gt;* Works with the team of Odegaard staff and other libraries to promote, publicize, and implement events and services to undergraduates such as orientation programs, Freshman Seminars, UW Common Book, Library Research Award for Undergraduates, the Research Exposed Lecture Series, the Library Student Advisory Committee, and the Odegaard Writing and Research Center.  &lt;br /&gt;* With the OUGL Coordinator for Reference Services, supervises, trains, and evaluates graduate staff assistants who participate in the instructional program which may include scheduling and teaching.&lt;br /&gt;* Participates in the selection and assessment of materials for the OUGL collection through the Coordinated Collection Development Program, working with the OUGL Coordinator for Collections.&lt;br /&gt;* Participates in formal and informal policy discussions for OUGL; provides specific contributions in assigned areas of responsibility.&lt;br /&gt;* Assumes other responsibilities as assigned; performs other duties as required.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;QUALIFICATIONS:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Required:&lt;br /&gt;* Graduate degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association or an equivalent graduate library science/information studies degree.&lt;br /&gt;* Demonstrated commitment to diversity and understanding of the contributions a diverse workforce brings to the workplace.&lt;br /&gt;* Experience working in an academic library or equivalent work experience in a library instruction position.&lt;br /&gt;* Extensive knowledge of current issues of library instruction and pedagogy, and demonstrated skill in leading others in meeting the challenges of providing reference and instructional services at large, decentralized institutions.&lt;br /&gt;* Demonstrated interest in the provision of reference and information services in an academic setting required.  Strong public service orientation and demonstrated interest in working with undergraduates.  &lt;br /&gt;* Ability to work successfully in a management team environment where consultation, collaboration, and cooperation are essential.  Must be creative, energetic, innovative, and motivated to continually seek improvement in services, collections, facilities. &lt;br /&gt;* Excellent and effective oral and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.&lt;br /&gt;* Ability to represent the Libraries on campus, regionally and nationally.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Preferred:&lt;br /&gt;* One to three years post MLS experience in library instruction and discipline-based curriculum design.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;SALARY:  $46,000 minimum.  Starting salary commensurate with qualifications and background.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;BENEFITS:  Librarians are academic personnel and participate in the University of Washington Retirement Plan (TIAA-CREF, The Vanguard Group, and/or Fidelity Investments) on a matching basis.  Vacation is accrued at the rate of 24 working days per year; sick leave at the rate of 12 working days per year.
