POSITION: Senior Information Specialist – Marketing/Communication Coordinator

SALARY: $43,575 annually

PLEASE NOTE: The Smathers Libraries has a pending grant application that is under final review by the funding agency. This position is conditional upon award and funding of the grant. If awarded, the position will be time-limited to approximately 24 months. The announcement as to whether we will receive the award is anticipated to take place in October 2009. This recruitment effort is conditional on award and funding, and if the application is unsuccessful the advertised position will not be filled.

The VIVO National Network for Biomedical Researchers project is a UF partnership with Cornell University Library and five other academic research institutions over two years - to create an integrated national information network on biomedical research that will serve not just researchers, but also students, administrative and service officials, prospective faculty and students, donors, funding agencies, and the public.

Senior Information Specialist is needed to work with the Vivo project’s National Educational Technology Team Lead to create a comprehensive suite of marketing materials to be used on this national grant project. The incumbent will be responsible for guiding and generating a marketing and communications program that promotes the VIVOweb to a broad audience in the clinical, research, and academic areas. Manages marketing and communications processes; the design and production of resources in a variety of formats including web, print, graphics, audio, video, and animation technologies to support curriculum offerings and promote VIVO. Works closely with liaisons to establish strategies for maximum endorsement of the project, use of best practices to identify change agents, promotion and marketing of the characteristics of VIVO as a new innovation, and to establish the key elements of a change process that will facilitate maximum endorsement and adoption.

The University of Florida George A. Smathers Libraries is recruiting for the position of Senior Information Specialist – Marketing/Communication Coordinator in the Health Science Center.
The duties of this position include:
This position is responsible for the coordination of Information/Publication services for the purpose of promoting the VIVOweb product to stakeholders and end-users within a multi-university, national, and international community. The essential functions are:

• Coordinates the development, revision, and distribution of all VIVOweb publications, including brochures, educational guides, fact sheets, posters, web pages, web video, as needed.
• Formulates marketing and communications strategies, processes, and promotional methods, utilizing a variety of formats including web, print, graphics, audio, video, and other technologies to support curriculum offerings and promote VIVOweb.
• Works closely with liaisons to colleges and applicable disciplines to establish strategies for maximum endorsement of the project by utilizing best practices to identify change agents, in promotion and marketing this innovative project’s key characteristics
• Works as a team member with associated Webmasters in designing and maintaining the web based instruction and marketing information.
• Coordinates, prepares, and presents displays or other special events to promote VIVOweb and its role in the academic community as wells as organizing campaigns for product dissemination.
• Performs other incidental duties in support of the essential functions listed above.

Minimum qualifications:
A high school diploma and seven years of appropriate experience. Appropriate college coursework may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Appropriate graduate degree, e.g. a Masters in Marketing, Communications, Library/Information Science or related area;
• Demonstrated skill in the production of print and media materials for the purpose of marketing, education, and/or outreach;
• Exemplifies excellent communication skills, flexibility, and collaborative and interpersonal skills in a diverse workplace;
• Good customer service orientation;
• Experience working in higher education.
