Libraries are a catalyst for increased student achievement and lifelong learning. This position is responsible for providing full online library services in a fast paced environment to students seeking undergraduate and graduate degree programs The online library directly supports the information and instructional needs of the online campus students and faculty.
Full/Part Time & Hours: Full Time -
Requirements:
Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions) • Provide access to information and ideas by directing students to current resources that support the curriculum. • Promote and encourage the ethical use of information by students and faculty. • Facilitate information literacy: the ability to identify information needs, seek out resources to meet those needs, analyze, synthesize, evaluate, and communicate the resulting knowledge. • Evaluate the impact and effectiveness of library resources in meeting instructional objectives. • Communication with online students and faculty about the curriculum, their research needs, and information resources. • Maintain records and statistics related to the online library collection/access development and usage to meet all regulatory reporting requirements. • Work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate student and department needs. This may include working more than 40 hours per week. • Uphold all AIU policies, procedures, integrity, and ethical standards.
Job Specifications Knowledge • Master’s of Library Science degree from an American Library Association accredited program required. • Experience in an academic, special or public library. • Educational background, knowledge, or experience in undergraduate and graduate curriculum areas including one or more of the following: Business, Information Technology, Criminal Justice, Education, Health Care, Nursing, Law, or Visual Communication.
Skills and Abilities • Profound commitment to public service. • Strong technology skills needed to provide innovative web-based library services and resources. Experience with instant messaging reference and/or screencasting preferred. • Willingness and ability to work the hours necessary to accomplish the assigned duties. • Strong communication skills and a desire to ensure student success. • Skills to establish and maintain effective relationships with all constituents, internal and external. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. • Proficiency in use of MS Word, MS Excel, and PowerPoint. • Demonstrable organizational and time management skills.
