The Indiana Room in our library is seeking an intern. Some of our material is cataloged; some is not. Some is relevant; some is not. The only thing we know for sure about the Indiana Room is that no one can find anything in it, and we are not sure what we have.
I would like to break it up into three projects:
1. Organize, weed, determine what we have and don't have. What do we need in there?
2. Catalog and index.
3. Digitize certain parts of that collection.
In addition, I am forming a committee to work on developing a Collection Development Policy. Our library currently does not have one. I would like an intern to work with me in developing that policy; we also need help updating and creating several other policies if that would not take enough time.

Bernie English, Librarian, BEnglish@indianahandcenter.com, 317-471-4340, Indiana Hand Center Library 8501 Harcourt Road Indianapolis, IN 46260
The Indiana Hand Center is one of the largest practices in the world devoted to the surgery and rehabilitation of the upper extremity. The library has the mission to support the practice with services based on a comprehensive collection of the literature of hand surgery.
At present, the library has no online catalog. We plan to use the Web-based system offered by Library World.
The project has two parts.
First, we need to enter records for the approximately 1200 books in our collection. Most of this can be done by a semiautomated method by importing MARC records from NLM's LocatorPlus database. Records for only a small percentage of our book holdings will need to be worked up from scratch.
Second, I want to add records of book chapters in multi-author volumes. The records would follow a prescribed format, so would be fairly routine for most record elements. In addition, however, I would like to have subject descriptors in the records as well. I have a number of specialized terminology listings that will help in the descriptor assignments.
Both types of records would go into one online catalog.
The result of the project would be to have a new online resource for the literature of hand surgery with a large number of records indexed nowhere else. The catalog would be open to anyone via the World Wide Web.
The intern would need to visit our site only infrequently since most of the work could be done anywhere there's a computer with an Internet connection.

We are located about 35 miles NE of Fort Wayne in Albion, Indiana. We are a fairly small district with a K-12 enrollment of just under 1,600 students. We have two elementary buildings, a middle school, and a high school. We feel we would present a unique opportunity for a SLIS student who would like to experience all grade levels during their internship. This would allow such an individual a wide range of interaction in a school library setting. We would like to be considered as a possible site for SLIS students who wish to do an internship in a school library. If you have any further questions or would like to speak to me, please don't hesitate to let me know.
