Teaching

  • SLIS L597, Nursing I635: Consumer Health Informatics. Developed and initially co-taught in 2006 with Dr. Anna McDaniel, Assistant Dean of Research, Indiana University School of Nursing. Students work with models of delivery of consumer health information; quality, design, usability; health literacy and health information literacy; consumer access to clinical information and current research. Taught online each spring.
  • SLIS L401: Computing Tools and Resources for Information Retrieval. Course manager, 2004 - present. Taught 2004 - 2005. Curriculum significantly updated and revised, 2004 - 2005. Re-developed for delivery, 2006-7. Topics include computing platforms, information access tools, and information management tools. Offered every semester.
  • SLIS L554: Education of Information Users. Explores university-focused information literacy, library instructional models, adult education and training theories; integrates OBPE outcomes-based planning and evaluation. Taught each spring, 2004 - present.
  • SLIS L527: Management of Library and Information Centers. Uses problem-based learning pedagogy to explore organizational, administrative, and managerial models and concepts as they relate to planning, policies and procedures, structure, budgeting, personnel. Issues such as leadership, group dynamics, team building, problem-solving, and effective communication are addressed. Taught spring 2005; spring, fall 2006; taught summer 2005 and 2006 to multiple sites over the interactive video system through the Indiana Virtual Classrooms.
  • SLIS L559: Introduction to Health Sciences Librarianship. Engages students in the professional literature, reference resources, bibliographic database researching and service skills associated with health sciences librarianship. Explores the roles of librarians in the healthcare industries. Taught each fall to two sites over the interactive video system through the Indiana Virtual Classrooms, 2004 - present.

  • Instructor, Shaping Outcomes: Outcomes-Based Planning and Evaluation, six-week online workshop offered to museum and library professionals from the Institute for Museum and Library Services (IMLS) spring 2006, fall 2006, spring 2007. Authored the Shaping Outcomes Instructors Manual.
