Student Groups - and - Events:

SLIS Student Chapters of Professional Associations
The six SLIS student groups host a variety of events. New students are encouraged to participate. These groups help with getting to know each other, but also about how professional associations work (which is important in your job search and career goals.) They will advertise events on our listservs (SLIS-L and SLIS-Students-L), on the bulletin boards, and on their websites:

  • (ACM) Association for Computing Machinery
  • (PLG) Progressive Librarians Guild
  • (ALA) American Library Association
  • (SAA) Society of American Archivists
  • (ASIST) American Society for Information Science and Technology
  • (SLA) Special Libraries Association

IU GPSO (Graduate and Professional Student Organization)
These events provide a great way to meet graduate students from other departments. SLIS has a representative on the GPSO. Watch for their orientation events. Last year they hosted a cookout, a wine and cheese reception, and an orientation session.

SLIS Listservs:
Be sure to subscribe to both listservs (SLIS-L) and (SLIS-Students-L).

If you have any questions, feel free to contact Rhonda or Jill in the SLIS Office (812.855.2018 or tollfree 888.335.7547). Email: slis@indiana.edu
