The University Graduate School has modified the process for the submission of the Dissertation Defense Announcement. [December 2011]
We recommend that you plan for 40 days ahead to allow for processing time — so that the form will be to the Graduate School by the required 30 days ahead of the defense.
The Announcement is now an e-Document form in OneStart.
The Graduate School will post announcements on their website after they finalize their review.
Additional SLIS Steps:
It is still required within SLIS that you provide a one page announcement with the details listed in the excerpt below (from the SLIS Ph.D. Handbook). Once your Doctoral Research Committee chairperson approves - they should send the announcement to: (1) the SLIS faculty listserv, (2) the SLIS Ph.D. listserv, and (3) copy to the SLIS Ph.D. Recorder - to post on the Bulletin Board in the hall and to place in the student's SLIS academic file.
Excerpt - page 25 (SLIS Ph.D. Handbook 2010-2011)
"A dissertation defense announcement must be made no less than one month (30
days) before the scheduled date of the defense. In addition to the date, time
and location of the defense, the announcement must include the exact title of
the dissertation, the url where an electronic copy of the dissertation can be
found, and an abstract of the dissertation that has been approved by the chair
of the research committee. At least one month (30 days) before the date of the
final defense, the student must submit the announcement to the University
Graduate School."
