What will happen to my Unix (Iris, Ella) account?

After a period of time (http://kb.iu.edu/data/auox.html), the university disables accounts of individuals who are no longer affiliated with the university. At that time, interactive access to SLIS computing accounts will naturally end. Some "portfolio" material may be left in place during this time. The "portfolio" should be considered read-only, and consist of materials you would like a prospective employer to see and should be limited to less than 100MB of disk space.

Later, the university "retires" the record of an individual's username. When this happens, the username could be assigned to another individual. To prevent problems that might arise in such a situation, SLIS will delete any account that is "retired" by the university.

SLIS students are encouraged to keep their own backup of their SLIS and IU materials. Once an account is deleted it can not be recovered. If the university has disabled an account, logins will not be possible.

Students who take classes at SLIS, but who are not enrolled in a SLIS program are not entitled to SLIS accounts if they are not taking classes in the current academic term.
