SLIS Listservs

SLIS-L

All SLIS students are required to subscribe to the SLIS-L distribution list. This is an administrative listserv that exists so that the SLIS staff and faculty can let students know important information.

SLIS-STUDENTS-L

A second listserv was created by Professor Lokman I. Meho to help welcome new students and to provide additional communication for current students. It is more informal, and postings may include house, book information, etc.

  1. How to Subscribe to SLIS-L
    subscribe slis-l firstname lastname
    • LISTSERV will send an email with intructions to complete your subscription.
      • Click or type the https:// link in the email
        or
        Reply to the email and type "OK" (without the quotes) as the text of your message. Just the word "OK" - do not retype the command.
      • Your command will be cancelled automatically if LISTSERV does not receive your confirmation within 48 hours.

    subscribe slis-students-l firstname lastname
    • Your request must be typed in the body of the message because the listserv software ignores the subject line. Your request will then be forwarded to the list moderator who will officially approve your subscription to SLIS-STUDENTS-L.
  3. How to Post a Message to SLIS-L
    • Send an e-mail message addressed to:
      slis-l@listserv.indiana.edu
    • The list moderator must read and approve all messages prior to their posting. Allow for a minimum of three business days before the posting appears.

    • SLIS established SLIS-L to facilitate school-related communication among faculty, staff, and students. The primary purpose of the distribution list is to disseminate information about SLIS to the list subscribers. Announcements include information regarding class schedules, course registration, advising, notices about programs and professional meetings, SLIS committee work, notices of publications and professional activities, job opportunities for SLIS students, etc.

  6. Unsubscribe from SLIS Listservs
    • You may leave this list at any time by sending an e-mail message to listserv@listserv.indiana.edu. NEVER send a subscribe or an unsubscribe message directly to SLIS-L.
    • In the body of the e-mail type:
    unsubscribe SLIS-L
    unsubscribe SLIS-STUDENTS-L
  7. Help
    • For any problems with subscribing, unsubscribing, or any other difficulties you have while using SLIS-L, please ask our SLIS lab consultants for assistance.
    • Many questions may also be resolved by searching IU's Knowledge Base.
